A YELLOW-LEGGED GULL was seen yesterday at Low Beach, at the southeastern corner of Nantucket. Other birds seen at Nantucket this week have included a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 4 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 12 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 133 CANVASBACK, 26 REDHEADS, 1 LITTLE GULL, 4 ICELAND GULLS, 5 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 2 RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS, and 1 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER. Among 103 species seen on the Newburyport Christmas Bird Count conducted this past Tuesday, highlights included 7 RED-NECKED GREBES, 68 SNOW GEESE, 14 GADWALL, 2 REDHEADS, 1 KING EIDER, 2 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, 9 BALD EAGLES, 21 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 3 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 28 WILD TURKEYS, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 5 COMMON SNIPE, 7 ICELAND GULLS, 2 BLACK- LEGGED KITTIWAKES, 9 GREAT HORNED OWLS, 11 RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS, 157 HORNED LARKS, 1 WINTER WREN, 1 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, 49 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, 4 GRAY CATBIRDS, 5 AMERICAN PIPITS, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, 51 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 1 PINE WARBLER, 2 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, 2 FIELD SPARROWS, 702 DARK-EYED JUNCOS, 28 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 99 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS, and 1 EVENING GROSBEAK. A belated report of the results of the Millis CBC conducted on December 16th included the following highlights: 5 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 22 WILD TURKEYS, 14 RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS, 36 NORTHERN FLICKERS, 3 PILEATED WOODPECKERS, 69 CAROLINA WRENS, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 90 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, 221 NORTHERN CARDINALS, 1 CHIPPING SPARROW, 2 FOX SPARROWS, 1 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, and 997 DARK-EYED JUNCOS. Miscellaneous reports this week have included a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE in Falmouth, a BLACK-HEADED GULL at the mouth of the Cape Cod Canal in Sandwich, 11 LESSER SCAUP and a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK in Barnstable, 2 PILEATED WOODPECKERS in Stow, 2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and 5 PINE SISKINS in Gardner, 60 HARLEQUIN DUCKS and a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET in Rockport, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT in Amesbury, and a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER of the western, "Audubon's" race in the vicinity of Hellcat Marsh on Plum Island.
