A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen near the Golden Anchor Inn in Bar Harbor. York County A trip to the Sanford sewage lagoons produced an AMERICAN PIPIT, RUDDY, RING-NECKED and WOOD DUCKS, plus NORTHERN PINTAIL and several RAPTORS. At Ogunquit Beach approximately 10,000+ SCOTERS were moving south from Moody Point towards Perkins Cove. RED-BREASTED MERGANERS and BUFFLEHEADS are now about also, and a handful of RED-THROATED LOONS. SANDERLINGS numbered between 500-700 birds on Ogunquit Beach, with DUNLIN perhaps 5% of that total, 34 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS with more towards Wells, a few SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS are still around. HORNED LARKS and AMERICAN PIPITS were also seen. A young MERLIN was seen at Webhannet Marsh in Wells. An aerial survey near Moody's Beach counted approximately 1000 SCOTERS. A SNOWY EGRET was at Granite Point. BUFFLEHEAD were seen at Goose Rocks in Kennebunk. Found at Parson's Beach and Strawberry Island, Kennebunk were 6 RED-THROATED LOONS, 4 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 14 SANDERLINGS, 3 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 3 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 17 SNOW GEESE, 7 CANADA GEESE, 22 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 1 BLACK-HEADED GULL, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS, and one BARRED OWL. At Biddeford Pool this week there were 6 to 8 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 5 AMERICAN PIPITS, numerous SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 20 RED-THROATED LOONS, one hundred six BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 6 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, 6 RED KNOTS, 100 DUNLIN, 13 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 250 SANDERLINGS, and 20 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS. A flock of CORMORANTS near Eastern Point contained approximately 200 DOUBLE-CRESTED and 50 GREAT CORMORANTS. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Eastern Point. A BALD EAGLE and a COOPER'S HAWK were at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco. Scarborough Marsh Area Approximately 10 SNOW GEESE have been grazing in a field on the east side of Route 1 near the Saco - Scarborough town line. Seen at Pine Point were the following:1 LEAST SANDPIPER, 25 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, up to 4 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 20 and 55 DUNLIN at different times, 100 SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS, 45 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 6 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER (juvenile), 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS (juveniles), 300 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 300 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 17 BLACK SCOTERS (males), 24 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, and 6 RED-THROATED LOONS. At Scarborough, Marsh the list included 2 SNOWY EGRETS, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER, 1 COOPER'S HAWK, 8 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 14 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and 1 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER. At Dunstan Landing there was a GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS and a TURKEY VULTURE. On Prout's Pond off Pleasant Hill Road in Scarborough was 1 SNOW GOOSE and 1 BLUE MORPH SNOW GOOSE, 25 RUDDY DUCKS and 4 HOODED MERGANSERS, 7 COOT, a pair of RING-NECKED DUCKS and SCAUP. Greater Portland and western Maine A NORTHERN GANNET was at Broad Cove in Cape Elizabeth. An EASTERN PHOEBE was at Spurwink Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth. A FIELD SPARROW was at the Bug Light in Portland. An IPSWICH SPARROW and a SNOWY EGRET were at Back Cove in Portland. Fifty DARK-EYED JUNCOS were at the Portland sewage treatment plant. Elsewhere in Portland there was an OSPREY. In Freeport 293 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS have been banded since September 25th, with 96 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS banded this week. Also seen in Freeport were FOX LINCOLN'S, WHITE-CROWNED and SWAMP SPARROWS. A Pair of BALD EAGLES with young was reported on Little Sebago. Two GRAY JAYS flew across an esker in Carrabasset Valley Township. Central Maine Good birds in Turner included: 3 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, INDIGO BUNTING, 33 TURKEY VULTURES, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, 5 GOLDEN PLOVERS, 100 AMERICAN PIPITS, 10 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 150 HORNED LARKS, and a FOX SPARROW. EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, a HERMIT THRUSH and a RUBY CROWNED KINGLET were seen in Dixmont. Eight EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were in Newburg. Two BALD EAGLES were seen in Brewer. A male BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was found in the Bangor City Forest October 20 in the early morning. The City Forest is located just off Stillwater Avenue about two miles north of the Bangor Mall. Monhegan Island The SAY'S PHOEBE reported last week is still present. Other good birds on Monhegan included BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, DICKCISSEL, WOOD THRUSH, PERGRINE FALCON, MERLIN, and other species. Midcoast In Georgetown this week there was a GREAT EGRET and a HERMIT THRUSH. At Westkeag marsh in Thomaston there were GREATER YELLOWLEGS, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and NORTHERN HARRIER. Eastern Maine There is a huge cone crop on all islands around the bay including Mt. Desert Island. There were 50+ RED CROSSBILLS on the Hop, a small island in the bay. One LONG-TAILED DUCK was at Egg Rock. A late (10/21) SPOTTED SANDPIPER was at Bar Harbor. Six immature BALD EAGLES were seen on Egg Rock at the mouth of Frenchman's Bay. Two adults and 2 immature BALD EAGLES were on Long Porcupine Island. There was a noticeable increase in numbers of arriving WHITE-WINGED SCOTER. Three BUFFLEHEADS were off Sand Beach in Acadia National Park. At Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge near Calais there were 3 BALD EAGLES, HOODED MERGANSER, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, WOOD DUCK, 4 DUNLIN, and 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS. Northern Maine In Fort Kent this week there was a RED-TAILED HAWK, AMERICAN ROBINS and DARK-EYED JUNCOS.
