Oft times our
genealogical journeys lead us to other favorite things. Recently
we went on a trip in search of my Revolutionary Struggle 5th
great grandfather's gravestone. After successfully finding his
gravestone, as well as other family stones, we had time to spare.
We remembered that we weren't too far from where we had looked at
some Pembroke Welsh Corgis. We found the Corgi breeder's house
and stopped per chance they were home and had Corgi babies
available. We were delighted that they had puppies and there was
one Corgi girl waiting for us to take her home.
A few days ago
whilst we were taking Ethlyn Maria Corgi on one of her frequent
necessary outings she spied an apple hanging low from one of our
apple trees at Corgyncombe Cottage. Ethlyn jumped up and grabbed
the apple several times. She ran around with it in her mouth
grrring, tugging, shaking, and running in circles until she
plucked the apple from the branch. Ethlyn was very pleased with
her success as anything to chew is a Corgi good thing!
Ethlyn Corgi
spends her days eating, sleeping, chewing her toys, and playing
with our other Corgi Katrina. Katrina was named after Katrina Van
Tassel from Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy
Hollow.
Ethlyn Corgi
looks a lot like our Tasha Corgi who passed on in July 2001.
Tasha Corgi was named after her Corgi God Mother Tasha Tudor.
We named our
Corgi Ethlyn Maria (pronounced Mariah) after my (Diane's) great
grandmother Ethlyn Maria Weaver who descends from a long line of
Welsh Kings. Ethlyn's first Weaver to come to the New World by
the 1630's was Clement Weaver and his wife Rebecca (Holbrook)
Weaver.
