Ethlyn Looking for Book

When Ethlyn comes inside from playing in the leaves she rushes straight away to the kitchen library to find one of her favorite books, The Great Corgiville Kidnapping by Tasha Tudor.

Ethlyn Selecting Book

Ethlyn can't seem to find the book she is seeking. Due to Ethlyn's over fondness for Tasha Tudor books they have to be put on a shelf higher than Ethlyn can reach. (Corgiville Fair is another of her favorites.) Ethlyn's mummy gets down The Great Corgiville Kidnapping and reads her the story.

Ethlyn Thinking of Fox

Ethlyn listens intently and becomes a bit fearful as her hero Caleb Corgi goes in search of the kidnapped victim. She too knows how frightening racoons can be as she saw one along the road the other night as her family was coming home. Ethlyn gives an understanding nod as Caleb is mistaken for a fox as such has happened to her also.

Ethlyn Listening

Ethlyn's little heart skips a beat when her hero Caleb Corgi jumps out of a hot air balloon and lands in Woodstock, Connecticut. Ethlyn listens after her mum finishes the story and tells her once again about her Peake, May, Lyon, Child, Shepard, Morris, and Bowen ancestors who came from Woodstock, CT. Ethlyn's namesake's (Ethlyn Maria Weaver) husband (Bert L. Hoag) descended from some of these Woodstock families.

Ethlyn's mummy Diane's 5th great grandfather Eliakim May answered the Lexington Alarm from Woodstock, CT. Another day perhaps we will take one of our cousin Louisa May Alcott's books from our kitchen library and read it aloud. Ethlyn has expressed an interest in cousin Louisa's books and recently she pulled Rose In Bloom off the shelf. Grandfather Eliakim May was 1st cousin to Louisa's great grandfather Samuel May. Eliakim's daughter Mary (May) Shepard was 2nd cousin to the father of Abigail (May) Alcott who was Marmee in the story Little Women.

There is nothing like a hot cup of tea, a good book, and a corgi puppy to snuggle with next to a wood cookstove... except maybe two corgi puppies!

Emily Corgi in the leaves

Whilst on an autumnal trip we happened upon another corgi puppy. We just had to have her! We named her Emily Jones Shepard Corgi after Diane's great great grandmother Emily Jane (Jones) Shepard and Emily (Jones) Shepard's cousin Emily Elizabeth Dickinson, as well as Emily Dickinson's mother Emily (Norcross) Dickinson. Emily loves playing in the leaves, she dives and slides like an otter. Ethlyn enjoys her new sister Emily. Their birthdays are only twelve days apart.

Katrina Corgi has a grand time playing with them both.

We love our corgyn!!!

One of our favorite poems by our cousin Emily Dickinson:

Frequently the woods are pink,
Frequently are brown.
Frequently the hills undress
Behind my native town.
