In May, the Corgyncombe Library displays A
Time to Keep, written and illustrated by Tasha
Tudor, depicting children delivering May baskets and dancing
about the May Pole. Diane's kindergarten teacher taught her how
to make May baskets, like Sarah's May basket above, using
wallpaper. Diane likes an abundance of daffodils during the
beautiful spring season.

A much loved and well worn copy of The
Burgess Bird Book for Children by Thornton W.
Burgess, illustrated by Louis Agassiz Fuertes. In the dedication
Thornton Burgess wrote: "To the children and the birds of
America that the bonds of love and friendship between them may be
strengthened this book is dedicated." In the preface
Thornton wrote: "Its primary purpose is to interest the
little child in, and to make him acquainted with, those feathered
friends he is most likely to see." Thornton wrote the book
in story form which he thought would be more interesting to
children. The book begins in the early morn with Peter Rabbit,
near the stone wall along the Orchard, enjoying the sunrise. He
had stayed out all night but wasn't tired for he was so excited
that Spring had arrived!
According to Season,
by Frances Theodora Parsons, is about flowers throughout
the seasons. She also speaks of birds. Also on the desk,
the bird cards were cards that children could collect
with information about the bird on the back.
