William Scott's obituary:
In Milford, on the 19th of Feb., Mr. William Scott, in the eighty-fourth year of his age. Mr. Scott was born on the first day of September, 1776, in Ticonderoga Fort, in the dark days of the revolutionary struggle. The men were called into the army and the women and children had to flee to the Fort for safety. They remained there till the surrender of Burgoyne, when they returned to Bennington, Vermont. Mr. S. came to Otsego county in his twenty-first year, was married December, 1798, and went to house-keeping on the same farm where he died - the farm then being in its wild state. The deceased discharged throughout his long life the whole duties of a husband, father, neighbor, and citizen; was industrious and prudent; and liberal in supporting the Gospel. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for fifty years, and although afflicted by disease through a large portion of his pilgrimage, he maintained a firm hope in his Saviour, and when about to close with this life he could be heard to say with Paul, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
