Rick: Thank you for making yourself available for this interview I’m conducting
for my research with regard to asynchronous classroom and cultural spaces.
My name is Rick. First, just a few questions concerning your experience
prior to taking this course. How old are you?
-
Masi: 31
-
Rick: And where is your home?
-
Masi: Ah, Japan.
-
Rick: Japan. And what is your major
presently?
-
Masi: Presently my major is Curriculum Development
and Instructional Technology.
-
Rick: Ah...um...so what degree will you be
earning?
-
Masi: Ah, Master’s
-
Rick: Are you looking to eventually get the Doctoral or will you go to
work first?
-
Masi: I’m look...I don’t think that I will ever
get a Ph.D..
-
Rick: I see. Okay. And how many years have you
spoken English fluently enough to have discourse, oral discourse.
-
Masi: Probably since... When I was 23,
I would say.
-
Rick: Ah. About 8 years. So what
are your experience and skills using computers prior to this course.
-
Masi: Not much experience I had. The
first time I touched any kind of PC and learned how to use windows was
4 years ago.
-
Rick: Okay, it was in Japan.
-
Masi: No it was actually in New York.
I came here as a student and I was, even though I spoke English already
I was in a language program where I can take both
language classes and you can also learn a skill. And I
took the computer classes to learn how to use different programs.
