Current Status:
Richard Andrew Parkany is a Ph.D. student in the School
of Education, Department of Educational
Theory and Practice (ETAP) at The University
of Albany, SUNY, investigating Curriculum
Development and Instructional Technology. He has completed 60 hours
of pre-dissertation course work including a 6-hour internship with Dr.
Karen Swan while in full time residency there from August 1997 through
May 1999. He has passed his qualifying Oral Inquiry Examination and is
preparing his portfolio for presentation and qualification as a Ph.D. candidate
in ETAP.
Research Interests:
His research interests include program evaluation and authentic assessment
in non-traditional educational milieux, action
research, and participatory curriculum development. Investigations
have included asynchronous classroom spaces, educational programs in community-based
and not-for-profit settings, community technology centers, electronic listservs,
informatic instructional technologies, authentic, interactive portfolio
assessment rubrics, complex and adaptive self-organizational systems, evaluation
of complex systems using chaordic theory, action research and other participatory
developmental projects, and community development and renaissance using
educational curricula in non-traditional settings.
