Foreign Tongue:

Have you ever noticed that Willy Wonka speaks several different languages throughout the movie? (Four of them to be exact: English, Latin, German, and French.) I've always wondered what the heck he was saying so I did some research and here it is.

Willy Wonka: Nihil Desperandum. (Latin)
Translation: Don't be desperate.
Willy Wonka: Adieu. (French)
Translation: Goodbye.
Willy Wonka: Auf weidersehen. (German)
Translation: Goodbye.
Willy Wonka: Gusundheit. (German)
Translation: A word used to wish good health upon someone.
Willy Wonka: Madames et monsieurs, maintenant nous allons faire un grand petit voyage par bateau. (French)
Translation: Ladies & Gentlemen, we are going to take a little boat ride.
Willy Wonka: Voulez-vous entrer le Wonkatania? (French)
Translation: Would you like to enter the Wonkatania?
Mrs. TeeVee: Tres jolie (French)
Translation: Very pretty.
Willy Wonka: Meine Herrschaften, schenken Sie mir ihre Aufmerksamkeit. (German)
Translation: My friends, please give me your attention.
Willy Wonka: Sie kommen jetzt in den interessantesten und gleichzeitig geheimsten Raum meiner Fabrik. (German)
Translation: You have now come to the the most interesting and, at the same time, the most secret room of my entire factory.
Willy Wonka: Meine Damen und Herren, der "Inventing Room." (German)
Translation: Ladies and Gentlemen, The Inventing room.

Willy Wonka:
(While on the WonkaWash, Singing) Martha! Martha! du entschwandest! Ah, mein gluck nahmst du mit dir. Geht es hin wo du entschwandest? Oder teile es mit mir? (German)
Translation: Martha! Martha! You have vanished! My happiness you take with you. Does it go where you have vanished? Or (do you) share it with me?

Willy Wonka:
et cetera, et cetera, fax mentis incendium gloria culpum et cetera, et cetera, memo bis punitor delicatum. (Latin)
Translation: This is the best I've heard so far for this Latin speech: and so on, and so on. the glory of a mind burns gloriously, and so on, and so on, remember me easily.
