Over the past year I've been collecting all sorts of Wonka stuff. I've had my eye out for anything and everything Wonka. I've called around the globe looking for certain things and I scan the "Wonka" auctions at eBay everyday. Well, while searching I've found many pictures of all sorts of items. I've decided to post them here for all to see. Also in this section of the site I'm going to have a little wanted section where I'll list Wonka collectibles that the most serious Wonkerers are after.
Where should I start? There are tons of collectibles that have to do with the film.
Everything from Pens to Lobby cards and things like mail-away promos. I'm gonna try to have a little but complete description of the item and then a link to the picture(s).
1. The Mail Away Promotional Candy Kit is a very popular item. The Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory Kit was offered on the backs of several different cereal boxes like Captain Crunch and LIFE. It sells at auctions now for anywhere from $50.00 to $300.00 depending on condition and depending on if all the pieces are there. The Candy Factory isn't too hard to find. It's usually pretty easy to get. I have lots of good and different pics of the Kit, molds, and cereal boxes.
I have some good scans of the individual molds that came with the kit too. The individual molds, when put up for auction, usually bring in $8 to $15 a piece.
Also, I have a couple scans of the cereal boxes that have the send away offer on the back. The original boxes are hard to come by. They sell for alot. Usually $15 for a ripped back or around $60-90 for a full box in Good condition.
2. Lobby Cards, Lobby Cards... Who's got the Lobby Cards? Many people have them but are they in good condition? After being pinned up in theatres and taped up in projection rooms, lobby cards are hard to find new or in perfect condition. They sell at auction for around $8 to $50 a piece depending completely on the condition. I know that there are both American and Spanish sets of 8 cards. There may be French Cards too. I'm not sure. There are many rumors that there is a French One-Sheet (poster) and rumors of French lobby cards but I've never seen either of them.
3. Sheet Music Books were also sold in the 1970's with the sheet music and lyrics from the songs in the film. There was an Organ music book which contains five songs and there is a 4 page piano music book which contains one song. The book with the sheet music to the song "The Candy Man" is easily found. There were two releases of this. One is orange and the other is white they both sell anywhere from $10-25. I've only seen the organ music book once. I got it at auction for only $7.50. It is a part of my own collection. I'm sure there is alot of them out there but I've only seen mine. It isn't in very good condition.
4. Of course, there were many posters for the film. For some reason, they call "movie posters" "One-Sheets". I've always called them posters. Anyways, there are several different ones. As I mentioned above, there is rumors of a French poster but no one has ever seen it.
5. More music... There were many LP's released in the 70's. Of course, there was the soundtrack that was availible to the public. But did you know there were others? There was a Disc Jockey version, a version where Anthony Newly sang all of the songs from the movie, and an interview record. The 1971 LP soundtrack is easy to find. It usually sells from $11-25. The LP Disc Jockey version sells for around $30. The Anthony Newley sung version is very rare! It sells for around $80-100. Another is a single released in 1971. It was a "45" with pure imagination on one side and cheer up charlie on the other. Finally, the interview record was made so that radio disc jockeys could have "fake" interviews with the cast members and such. For example, the DJ would read the question and when the record player played it would be Gene Wilder's voice answering the question. It would sound real to the audience but it's really a "mock-up" interview. I've never seen this record. I've just heard about it. I do know it exists.
6. Press books, promotional items, and more... The Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Pressbook was released in 1971. The press book contained behind the scenes notes and lots of production notes. It also contained the herald with great color stills from the film. It sells for around $30-$100 dollars on eBay. I don't have any pics of the herald. Feel free to send me some!
7. Gene's stuff! Gene, this section is for you! My Wonka Equal! Here we go...
8. Re-makes of props. When I say "re-makes" I mean professionally done, perfect replicas that take hours and hours to complete! Schrum Studios makes these "prop impostors" and they are beautiful! Schrum Studios have made a remake of 5 props from the film. I have pictures of four of these items.
I don't have pictures of the "Wonka Boxes" which Schrum has made. These Items are available for about $95-$135 (Starting bids) each and can be obtained through eBay.
There will be more collectables here soon. Please be patient. |
